Ballard Community Services (BCS) provides early education services, emergency assistance, holiday assistance, and case management services. The early education program uses an evidence-based curriculum to structure classroom activities to best help children learn. Children master developmentally appropriate tasks, and learn valuable social skills that help them adapt to classrooms. Families are also supported by a family connections coordinator who assists families in parenting needs, kindergarten readiness, and developmental screening.
BCS additionally supports families with basic needs through a variety of human service programs. These keep children fed, clothed, and sheltered while they attend the program and their parents work towards a goal of increased financial stability. BCS offers access to human services at two of our sites, Penn House and the Ballard Center. Programs include food security, clothing assistance including professional clothing for women transitioning back into work through our Suitable for Work closet, assistance with taxes, rent, utilities, and prescriptions, school supplies though School Kits, and gifts, clothing and a holiday meal for families through Holiday Bureau. Ballard also offers a strengths program to our low income clients. This program offers clients a professionally developed and personalized strengths-based path to self-sufficiency.
